Our Proposals
The proposed design offers a modern, open-plan and flexible layout, providing an enhanced space and increasing the accessibility of partner services and events to a greater range of groups.
The redevelopment of the site will visually improve the local area. It will create a welcoming environment for people arriving by car, train or other sustainable modes of travel. In addition to the vital offer provided by the Library and Registration Services, it will also give residents a bespoke learning and skills centre, delivering accessible opportunities for residents to gain qualifications and secure local employment. It will also introduce a University of Essex presence into the town via the new Centre for Coastal Communities.
To progress this project through to the planning and construction stages, design team Saunders Architects have been appointed by Essex Housing. At this stage, the emerging proposals include the following:
Two floors of well-designed library floorspace
Additional dedicated space for the University of Essex
Two floors of Adult Community Learning spaces, including a podcasting studio
Purpose-built meeting rooms and hot-desking areas
New amenity areas
Changing spaces WC
Public realm improvements
Access to the Clacton Museum collection
